5 Line Of Duty Season Six Clues We Need To Discuss
Line Of Duty season 6 is almost with us and really, it can’t come quick enough! We’ve nearly reached our one-year pandemic anniversary and with new shows appearing pretty sparsly in our TV Guides, we’ve never needed our latest dose of Jed Mercurio more! So, while we light a candle at our Line Of Duty shrine in the hopes of a quick return, please enjoy these five season six clues that we need to discuss.
1. Buckells is back
The man, the myth, the Superintendent. Buckells is back and it looks like he’s been promoted!
Thanks to the eagle eyes of Shrine Podcasts Twitter follower @emmath0ughts, we learned back in October that the marginal character is returning once again, and maybe season six will finally be Buckells’ time to shine.
Back in season one he was SIO (Senior Investigating Officer) on Jackie Lav’s case. He then reappears in season four, when he replaces Roz as the lead of Operation Trapdoor under the orders of dodgy boy Assistant Chief Constable Derek Hilton.
Many fans are now guessing that Buckells’ may be the final ‘H’, either way he’s back and that spells trouble.
2. It all comes down to property
Yes, we’re obsessed with Line Of Duty. Yes, we have had WAY too much time on our hands and yes, that results in us looking too far into everything that Jed Mercurio tweets.
Which leads us to our next clue, a photo of Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar on set. The pair appear as Kate and Ted in the infamous glass box, no doubt ready to give someone a good grilling.
Kate has a folder with a number of pages on the table in front of her. When we zoomed in we discovered the pages relate to a TIMESHARE SALE AND PURCHASE AGREEMENT.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Line Of Duty’s central mystery will all come down to property. Dodgy timeshares, Sands View Boys’ Home being redeveloped into an apartment block, Ted loosing all his money to Mark Moffatt - a police officer turned federation rep turned PROPERTY developer.
Need we say any more…
3. Danny Waldron’s list is the key
Danny Waldron, what a guest character. It’s hard to believe he only appeared in one episode! But if you ask us, Waldron's impact lives on.
Before his untimely death in season three episode one, Victor Charlie Five One comprised a list of names of the people that abused him during his time at Sands View Boys Home.
On that list appeared Patrick Fairbank, Dale Roach and Ronan and Linus Murphy. Thankfully, those four deplorable characters have been dealt with. However, the list goes on.
And Shrine Podcasts Twitter follower, @mattjsport, spotted a connection between one Roger Hyde-Albert and high-ranking officer Susan Hyde-Albert.
Surely more than a mere coincidence…
4. Watch out for Ryan’s social worker
Journey with us, if you will, all the way back to Line Of Duty season one where a small child named Ryan Pilkington is terrorsing people in the Moss Heath area and generally being a little sh*t.
Due to his behaviour, Ryan is assigned a social worker. One Jane Hargreaves.
Hargreaves, Hargreaves, now where have we heard that name before. Oh yes, Detective Chief Superintendent Lester Hargreaves. He first appeared in season two working for Major Violent Crime. He was back in season four under Murder Squad and finally met his sticky end in season five when John Corbett showered him in bullets - “we are bad people”.
Working as a bent bastard at Serious and Organised Crime at the time, Lester Hargreaves was being blackmailed by the OCG, but what on earth was his relationship to Jane Hargreaves? Will she continue on his dirty work in season six?
We’ll have to tune in to find out!
5. Ted’s Belfast past will be back to haunt him
We have left this clue to the end, because we have simply gone too far with this one. However, Jed Mercurio shared it on Twitter himself, so we’re not completely to blame!
Back in October, the gaffer posted the below image to social media along with the caption ‘#LineofDuty6 cryptic plot clue’. I mean, what did he expect.
The photo depicts a mysterious figure in white overalls looking towards a dilapidated warehouse with the name Arnotts on one side.
And where is this secret locatioon? Arnotts warehouse is on (Adrian) DUNBAR street in Belfast - yes, in real life!
Has Steve killed Ted in his home town? Did Ted buy Steve a warehouse and then misspell his name on the logo? Are we back in Belfast because that’s simply where the show films or should we prepare to delve deeper into Ted’s past and his time spent in the Royal Ulster Constabulary?
Jed, put us out of our misery please!
