Introducing Your New Favourite BBC Thriller Vigil
Your latest BBC drama obsession has arrived. Filling the bent bastard void that Line Of Duty left in its wake is Vigil, the submarine-based, Suranne Jones-starring, nautical whodunnit we never knew we needed. And while Martin Compston barely lasted ten minutes into the opening episode, we’re still hooked!
The six-parter follows the HMS Vigil, a Trident nuclear submarine patrolling the waters off the coast of Scotland, when a sailor is found dead on board - and not just any old sailor, Steve Arnott himself! Jones’ claustrophobic DCI Silva soon finds herself airlifted to the boat (not ship) via a helicopter, making for the first of many iconic shots peppered throughout the series.
And coming from the paramount production house behind Bodyguard, Save Me and Line Of Duty, it wouldn’t be a World Productions production without an intricate subplot, hence the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler ensuring Silva and her on-land counterpart Rose Leslie’s DC Kirsten Longacre are earning their paycheques.
Elsewhere there are plenty of recognisable faces, dodgy looks and new terminology for us to learn about. So do join us to ride the wave of tense BBC drama at its best all the way to October. There will be a new podcast waiting for you every Wednesday morning as we attempt to fish out the guilty party alongside Silva & Longacre. And remember, the deeper you go, the darker it gets…
